FIFA to Investigate Zidane Incident
Now it is official. FIFA will run a full investigation to the events the led to Zinedine Zidane`s head-butt on Italy`s Marco Materazzi on June 9 during World Cup 2006. Many soccer fans around the world feel that Germany 2006 was an infamous event. Too many events had clouded the glory of tournament, and FIFA thinks that they are right.
The Zidane incident will surly be remembered as one of the shameful moments in the history of World Cup, and FIFA wants to know what happened. "FIFA will open a disciplinary investigation into Zidane`s conduct to enable it to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident as exactly as possible," world soccer`s governing body said in a statement.
At first it was said that Materazzi called Zidane a `dirty terrorist`, but Materazzi denied provoking the French captain. Now the Italian defender admits that he called Zidane names, but never a terrorist. "I used an insult that I`ve heard used a dozen times and which is heard all the time on the pitch," Materazzi told the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.
