Italy Knocks Out World Cup Hosts
After defeating Argentina, and once Brazil was out of the picture, Germany became the clear favorite to take the cup. Playing in its own country and enjoying the support of its many fans, Germany looked as if it was going all the way. Apparently, Italy was not going to let that happen over its own back. It took Italy 119 minutes to score, but when it finally did ? the game was over.
Italy and Germany battled for 90 goalless minutes and the game went into overtime. Italy did have several very dangerous kicks in the direction of Jens Lehmann`s net, but they proved unlucky when the ball hit the post a few times. The game`s overtime looked just like the game itself with no goals and it was clear that the game would be decided, once again, in a penalty shootout. Again, Italy disagreed.
Fabio Grosso scored for Italy on the 119 minute leaving the Germens stunned. Germany picked up the pace hoping to score before the game was over but it seemed that another goal in less than a minute was a lose cause. Italy proved differently, once again. Alessandro Del Piero scored another great goal for Italy on the very last seconds of the game and ended it for Germany.
