Roberto Carlos Steps Down for Brazil

Many international soccer players look at the World Cup as their biggest opportunity to show their skills and enter the history books of soccer. That is why many big players who are contemplating retirement will, in most cases, wait for after the closes World Cup ? and only then retire. And that`s why after a team is knocked out of the tournament news come of key players resigning. Brazil is no different in this field and after their unexpected disqualification, Roberto Carlos announced his retirement.

Brazil lost 1-0 to France and lost their world champions title. Only two days after their defeat the Real Madrid defender, Roberto Carlos, told reporters in Spain that he played his last game for Brazil, and will not play on the international stage anymore. "I`ve stopped with the national team," he said. "It was my last game." Carlos previously said that he will play for his country for several more seasons, but the 33-year-old player has changed his mind.

Carlos` debut was 12 years ago and he was a great contribution to the national team of Brazil. Carlos earned total of 132 caps and scoring 10 goals. He won the 2002 World Cup, the Copa America in 1997 and 1999, the Confederations Cup in 1997, and a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympics.
