England`s World Cup Dream Ends

It`s been a really packed weekend, with three favorites out of the tournament. Argentina lost to Germany, Brazil lost to France and England lost to Portugal after another penalty shootout between the two teams. Following a no goals game and a no goals extra time, the game was settled by free kicks and England kept its penalties tradition ? losing.

England showed the same level of skill that it showed throughout the tournament, but there were other misfortunes that led to its defeat. England`s captain David Beckham was injured and had to be replaced, and England`s key player Wayne Rooney was handed a red card leaving England with 10 players. The match was a hard struggle between the old rivals, but with not decision.

England had lost to Portugal in penalties on Euro 2004, and England was hoping that Saturday`s match will become their great revenge. Portugal`s goalkeeper gave a remarkable performance and stopped three penalty kicks. The beaten England had nothing to do than to pack its suitcases and head for home.
