Five Cities Fight Over 2016 Olympics Hosting
Hosting the Olympic Games is considered one of the highest honors for a city. The games turn a city into a tourist attraction and during the games, the entire world is looking at the city`s direction. Five cities across the United States are interested in hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics. San Francisco`s mayor is dreaming about marathoners crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, cyclists pedaling through the Presidio and sailors navigating the bay.
Each mayor has his own plans for the 2016 games. Los Angeles, Chicago, Huston, Philadelphia, and San Francisco are all fighting for the opportunity of hosting the summer Olympics. Richard M. Daley, mayor of Chicago talked about a "Chicago style" games. "I described it as an American experience, Chicago style," Daley said. "That`s very important. We want the Olympics to come back to America. This is an opportunity to showcase Middle America."
The U.S Olympic Committee board of directors will have a hard time deciding which city will host the events. "There was nobody that eliminated themselves, based on the information we have now," said USOC chairman Peter Ueberroth, the architect of the 1984 Los Angeles Games, which were the first to turn a profit. "We think that we`ll bid, we hope we`ll bid, we want to bid, but we may not if we don`t think it`s a fair chance," Ueberroth said. "We`re not going to take a partner, whatever city is chosen, and take that partner on a fool`s voyage."
