Can Bryant Surpass Chamberlain?
I take offense to people talking about how even Michael Jordan could never do what Bryant did a week ago. I say that the reason why Jordan never managed to score more than 80 points was because he wasn?t as selfish as Bryant. Plus he could depend on his teammates, which Bryant can?t. Can Bryant one day surpass Chamberlain? It probably would have to come against a team that is both weak on defense but also having a strong offensive game against the Lakers themselves.
They must as well keep it relatively close or even potentially beat the Lakers despite Bryant`s scoring. Going back to his earlier 62 points, he is unlikely to play much in the 4th quarter of a blowout, unless Jackson and him go against history so far and do so for a whole quarter or so (which I do not see as likely). His teammates would have to aggressively feed him the ball and not be on a roll themselves.
I believe Bryant could do it taking as ?few? as 50-52 shots. Although, that still sounds to some like an absurd number, if he is hitting 60% or more again and his team needs it to win the game again, it could well happen and who could fault him in that scenario?
