Kobe Becomes Second All Time
The record for highest number of points scored by a player in a single game belongs to none other than Wilt Chamberlain. Up until yesterday, David Robinson trailed at second with 71 points followed by Jordan?s 69 points performance against Boston. Forth on the list was Bryant with 62 points he scored against Dallas. Yesterday, Bryant bumped Robinson to third place, advancing to second place after scoring 81 points against Toronto.
When you think about Wilt?s 100-point performance over 40 years ago, it is mind-boggling, but to think a player today could come even within twenty points of that feat is just beyond belief. Not even the immortal Michael Jordan can brag of such an accomplishment. I don?t think anyone thought that a player in modern day professional basketball would be so dominant during the course of a game.
Whether you like Kobe or not, the one thing no one can deny is this guy?s competitive drive and unmatched ability to push himself to the limit. While you have to give credit where it is due, you also have to look at Kobe?s efforts from all angles. When a player is hot, it would be wise to keep feeding him to ball. That makes perfect sense. However, in the case of Kobe, his desire to take more shots than every other teammate combined is not a new development.
