Indy Fans Love Jasikevicius
Sarunas Jasikevicius is showing NBA fans why he was regarded the best player in Europe for three straight seasons. Over the past three years, Jasikevicius won 3 Euroleague titles and led his Lithuaninan national team to a victory over the US in the last Olympic Games held in Athens. Anyone that watched him play with the Pacers can tell that the term rookie does not apply to him. While the Lithuanian guard is theoretically a rookie in the NBA, his resume talks of seven years in Europe topped with three consecutive Euroleague championships.
NBA scouts failed to show interest when he came fresh out of University of Maryland in `98. Born in Kaunas, one of Lithuania`s biggest cities and the birthplace to fellow basketball stars Arvydas Sabonis, Sarunas Marciulionis and Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Jasikevicius considers Europe more of a home. He went back to Europe to get better and ultimately had to leave for the same reason.
He was brought to Indiana to help fill the shooting void left by Reggie Miller and he found his shooting touch. Jasikevicius is shooting an impressive 40% from the three. Not only does he feel like a kid, he has to behave like one at times. He laughs when asked about his rookie team duties with the Pacers so we are only left to guess if it has to do with donuts, towels or something else.
