Grizzlies Explore Other Options

With Stoudamire out with an injury, the Grizzlies are scrambling for answers at the point guard position. I bet Jerry West would have loved to have Earl Watson back right about now. In fact, with Watson made available by the Nuggets, the Grizzlies might attempt to get him back. The team is exploring additional point guard options to help fill Damon?s void, there has been the question of whether this team actually needs a point guard since the team?s best passer is Gasol.

Would you want Pau at the top of the key with the ball trying to start up the offense or would you prefer that he is in the low post awaiting an entry pass for a high percentage shot? Would you want Pau applying fullcourt pressure on the other team?s point guard, or would you rather have the 7-footer patrolling the paint and fighting for position on the defensive boards? There is more to playing the point position than just padding your stats sheet with assists.

The point guard has to be able to read the defense and determine how to attack that defense. That?s what has made Damon so valuable to this team. That?s also what will make Bobby more valuable to this team. There is no denying that Pau is a very skilled passer and a very unselfish player. Both are traits of a good point guard (i.e. Steve Nash). He has to know when to penetrate, pass, shoot, or penetrate and dish. The point guard is called the floor general for a reason. Some of the traits that make up an NBA point guard can only be acquired with experience.
