GM?s Start Planning for Summer
General Managers that have let the deadline pass them by are now focusing on what they are going to do come summertime, since their hands are tied until the end of the season. Some team went ahead to Thursday knowing that they are not going to get anything done while others have resided to the fact after failing to do so. There is always a lot of talk during this time of year, which usually doesn?t amount to a whole lot.
Chicago still have Tim Thomas is and they would move him if the right deal surfaces, the story being told in Chicago is they will cash out Thomas this summer and use the $20 million they will have under the cap to pursue a free agent or two, the only thing that changes that scenario is if the player they covet is offered in trade now and Peja Stojakovic seems pretty happy in Indiana.
Detroit made its changes, there was speculation that Kelvin Cato could be traded again to return a veteran point guard, but a Pistons source indicated yesterday that Kelvin was brought in as beef for a playoff run, and that his ending contract would create the room to over pay Ben Wallace this summer.
