Looking Back on All Star Weekend
All Star weekend has provided us with some memorable moments that will live on for generations to come. Twenty years from now, people will be watching clips of this years slam dunk contest feeling just as nostalgic as we do watching Spud Web from 20 years ago. Nate Robinson pulled out a related trick. He got Spudd Webb toss the ball, got the toss, then jumped over Spudd and slammed the rock home. A tribute to the smallest guy to have ever won the Slam Dunk, 20 years after Spudd had won the said competition.
Watching the competition I was struggling to understand why Josh Smith used a piece of tape in the first place. A piece of tape was placed about a step back from the 15-foot line. It was even placed about a step left from the center. Everyone was wondering what it was for. Majority thought it was a takeoff point. Majority still think it was. But it never served its purpose, whatever its purpose was. He took off a step right and a step in front from where it was. Nowhere near where the tape was.
The judges gave him a 41, thus sealing his fate. Even a 50 in his second dunk would not have been enough. He incidentally got a 40 on a dunk where he took a toss from teammate Royal Ivey. The low score reflected how he seemed to have lost any interest after already knowing that he had been eliminated.
