West Coach of the Month - Avery Johnson

The Mavericks` Head Coach, Avery Johnson, was named Western Conference Coach of the Month for January by the NBA. This is a third award for the same title for Johnson. And he has only been the team`s coach for four months. Johnson was also awarded Western Conference Coach of the Month in April and November of 2005.

The Mavericks compiled a 13-2 record in January and currently own a nine-game winning streak, which is tied for the fourth longest in franchise history. The 13 wins were also the most in the month of January in team history. It is the fourth time over the past six months that the Mavericks have set or tied the team-high for wins in a particular month.

The award caps off a banner month for Johnson, in which he became the fastest coach in league history to win 50 games (50-12 mark at the time) and was named head coach for the Western Conference in the upcoming All-Star game.
