The Answer: Iverson joins Nuggets

After ten years playing in Philadelphia and 11 days after asking to be traded, a trade was finalized and Allen Iverson will join the Denver Nuggets. The price the Nuggets will pay for the super star are two 2007 first round draft picks and two veterans. The acquisition will help the team offset the loss of team leader Carmelo Anthony who is serving a 15 game suspension and will return January 20.

Iverson, the second highest scoring player this season and a four-time scoring champion will join the league`s top scorer Anthony. Denver is currently seventh in the Western Conference with a 14-9 record and cannot afford to fall behind in the rankings while Anthony sits out his suspension. That and the opportunity to have a 1-2 combination in Iverson and Melo, along with center Marcus Camby blocking 2.7 shots per game, was worth $57 million over the next three years that Iverson will earn.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, is a lowly 5-18 this season, the worst in the Eastern Conference. They have lost the last 11 games. They will look to next year for improvement with their own lottery draft and Denver`s two first-round picks. The teams will meet on January 2.
