Tiger Woods golf Player of the Year

This news is hardly news. For the eighth time in the past ten years, Tiger Woods has been picked as the PGA Tour player of the year and awarded the Jack Nicklaus Trophy. But Woods has managed to make this year special, even though he is almost a sure pick year in and year out. This year, Woods accomplished a rare feat of 12 victories, including the British Open and PGA Championship. He has made nearly $10 million in prize money this year.

Woods` past year was not entirely a glad one. he lost his father, Earl, to cancer. He then did not compete in any event between the Augusta Masters and the U.S. Open. By the end of the year he became the unanimous choice in the vote by fellow tour players. Along with player of the year award, Woods also won the Byron Nelson Trophy with a 68.11 strokes a round scoring average.

Other awards were given to South African Trevor Immelman, who was named the tour rookie of the year. Immelman made more than $3.8 million in prize money this year. American Steve Stricker was named the comeback player of the year.
