Jermaine Taylor Retains his Boxing Titles
World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization middleweight champion, Jermaine Taylor, managed to maintain his titles in a fight against Kassim Ouma at North Little Rock (Arkansas) over the weekend. The fight was mostly uneventful, with Taylor maintaining a lead throughout the game. A unanimous judges? decision was announced in Taylor?s favor after a twelve round game.
On all three judges? cards, Taylor won the first six rounds, with the first nine rounds on two of the cards. Kassim Ouma threw more punches than Taylor during the match (701 to 597), however Taylor landed more punches with a clear lead of 244 to Ouma?s 177. Taylor maintained a good lead in the final eight rounds of the match, as could be seen in the open scoring used.
Since winning the title in 2005 against Bernard Hopkins in Las Vegas, Jermaine Taylor has not played in his home state until Saturday?s fight. Taylor was hoping that a friendly home crowd would allow him a knock-out victory, but Ouma was not going down without a fight and drew Taylor into a full round game, running him into the ropes several times and living up to his reputation as an aggressive fighter. Taylor narrowly missed losing his title in July against Winky Wright in a fight that ended with a draw.
