Trust in Gramatica pays off

The difference was in the kicker. With seconds left to play in the game, the play calling for a 46 yard field goal, Bill Parcells`s decision to release the best kicker in league history and to play with Martin Gramatica instead, was on the line. Gramatica was signed by the Dallas Cowboys only last Monday to replace Mike Vanderjagt. He made the kick, lifting the Cowboys 23-20 over the New York Giants.

The Cowboys` quarterback Tony played fairly well, completing 20-of-34 passes for 257 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Running back Marion Barber ran for both Dallas touchdowns, Gramatica connecting on 3 of 4 field goal attempts for nine more points. Eli manning, under the spot light in New York, played well with 270 yards and two touchdown passes on 24 of 36 passing, with no interceptions.

Parcells said of his kicker: "He did a good job. I told him he was making me look good." Improving to an 8-4 record, Gramatica helped make the entire team look better. They lead the NFC East by two games. Three of the remaining four games will be played at home, at Texas Stadium, closer not only to making the playoffs, but even to enjoying a bye week in the post season.
