Old Man Larsson holds promise for future
Manchester United has strengthened its striking power with the surprise signing of Henrik Larsson. The Swedish football player, now 35 years of age, is best known for his successful years playing for Celtic in Scotland. With this move by Sir Alex Ferguson, who said more is expected in January, will bring Larsson from semi-retirement to Old Trafford.
Manchester`s rival Barcelona was also trying to sign Larsson to replace the injured Samuel Eto`o. But Larsson turned down the offer, as he did Ferguson`s offers before finally giving in. His age was not enough to deter either club, and certainly is not in Ferguson`s eyes. "Some players look after themselves very well, so their age confuses you in terms of what you see on the football field," said Ferguson. Larsson won the Golden Boot award for being Europe`s most prolific goal scorer in 2001. He scored 40 league goals that season, and a total of 242 goals for Celtic in 315 games.
Ferguson confirmed that the midfield will be the next section to receive new players. Manchester would like to get injured star Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich.
