Woods Wins Seventh Grand Slam Title

Tiger Woods just seems unstoppable, winning his seventh Grand Slam. Woods, who is PGA and British Open champion, beat Jim Furyk by two strokes after closing with a bogey-free 6-under 66 at the Poipu, Wednesday. Woods also won at Poipu in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2005. He had only lost their once earning second place after Ernie Els in 1997. The 36-hole tournament granted Woods $500,000 for his 8-under 136 score. Woods has won over $3 million in Grand Slam prize money.

Furyk, who is considered the world`s second best golfer, won $300,000 for his total of 71. Geoff Ogilvy, US Open champion was third, earning him $250,000. Last was Mike Weir, who received $200,000. Ogilvy, despite taking third, was in a good mood, saying: "Any time you get to play with him, it`s a privilege," adding. "You can learn something from him."

The only other golfers to win multiple Grand Slam titles are Greg Norman, who won in 1986, 1993 and 1994, and Andy North, who won in 1979 and 1990. It seems that woods record will never be broken like the Boston Celtics` 10-year-straight NBA victories or Lance Armstrong`s seven victories at the Tour De France. This tournament closes Woods` year topping the field of golf with eight wins on tour only spoiled by the loss of his father to cancer. When asked whether he`ll be competing in 2007 for his eighth Grand Slam Woods said: "I`ve got to qualify. I`ve got four chances next year. We`ll see."
