Israeli Reports Accuse Liverpool of Unholy Motives
Liverpool`s manager, Rafael Benitez, did not expect this kind of welcome when he arrived with his team to Kiev. Liverpool had to travel to Ukraine for their second leg match against the Israeli club, Maccabi Haifa, following UEFA`s decision to remove all international games from Israel due to `the situation in the Middle East`.
Benitez was attacked by a group of Israeli reports during the pre-game press conference regarding Liverpool`s role in UEFA`s decision. The reports accused Liverpool of pressuring UEFA to relocate the game, and that their motives were unholy as `there is no war in Tel Aviv`.
Liverpool`s manager answered his critics by saying that "We are here because of a UEFA decision and I only want to talk about the game. My only concern is with football, you must understand why we could not come to Tel Aviv. I was asked these same questions a few years ago when I was manager at Valencia and we had to play a game outside of Israel. That too was a decision made by UEFA. We at Liverpool are now here to play football and you all know the reason why."
