Miami Takes Mourning Back
The Miami Heat has re-signed center Alonzo Mourning who will help the team defend their NBA championship. Financial details were not stated as of yet. The player enjoyed about $1.1 million for playing with the Heat last season, and the new deal is not expected to be any different. "It`s obviously great to have Zo back," Heat coach Pat Riley said in a statement released by the team. "We know how important he is to the city, this franchise, and in helping us try to repeat as NBA champions. It`s a good day."
The NBA center announced on July that he intends to return to Miami for their NBA season number 14. Mourning stopped playing on December 2003 to undergo a kidney transplant. "I love this organization, the fans and the whole South Florida community and I`m happy to have the opportunity to join my teammates and defend our championship this season," Mourning said.
Mourning has an impressive record, with a 7.8 point average, 5.5 rebounds and 2.66 blocks and ranking third in the NBA in blocks per game. With such a record, it is no wonder that Miami wanted Mourning back.
