Beckham Out of England`s National Team
A dawn of a new era is about to rise over England`s national soccer team. Steve McClaren, the new English coach that took over after Sven-Goran Eriksson, decided that new times are ahead and did not summon one of England`s most popular soccer stars, David Beckham, to the team. The move was quite a surprise for soccer fans around the world, and people might think that Beckham`s international career is over.
Beckham resigned from his post as England`s captain after their World Cup quarter-final exit, but never said anything about wanting to leave the team entirely. In fact, following McClaren`s statement, Beckham told Reuters that his will to play for England is "as strong as ever."
"I spoke with David last Monday and notified him of my decision," McClaren told a news conference. "I told him I was planning for the future, looking to change things and go in a different direction, and David wasn`t included within that. I have great respect for David, he has been a fantastic captain for England, a great player and still is a great player."
