Liverpool Barely Makes it Against Israeli Club
The great Liverpool was very close to losing their match against Maccabi Haifa, if it was not for Mark Gonzalez. The Israeli champions opened the game strong with a 29th minute goal that left Liverpool stunned. Craig Bellamy scored an equalizer and the game went into a tie stand off. Liverpool was expected to walk this game through, but Haifa gave them a run for their money, and it was only with a few minutes left until the end of the second half ? Liverpool scored again.
Gonzalez was on the field for three minutes alone before scoring his winning goal. The young player had a rough time getting to Liverpool, but his glorified debate was worth all the trouble. Although Liverpool did win the game, the English press was not sympathetic. The Israeli club showed great skills and Liverpool was lucky to win the game ? as the press claims.
The second game, although a home match for Haifa, will not be played in Israel. UEFA decided that due to security reasons no international or club matches will be held in Israel. Haifa will have to find a different location to host the English team at.
