Eddie Pope Steps Down from the International Stage
No more international soccer performance from Eddie Pope, as the U.S soccer star retires. Eddie Pope participated in three World Cup tournaments as well as in the 1996 Olympics during his career. Pope is 32 years old and believes that it`s time to take a step down. Pope was replaced on the MLS all-star team last week and currently plays for the Real Salt Lake.
"After having the opportunity to play in my third World Cup and taking some time to reflect with my family, I felt like it was the right moment to say goodbye to the national team," Pope said. "I`ll miss all my teammates, and I will always appreciate the successes we had together."
Pope`s international career lasted 11 years. The U.S player appeared on nine World Cup matches as he played for his country. The former United States National Soccer team coach, Bruce Arena, complimented Pope saying that "Eddie Pope is arguably the finest defender this country has ever produced."
