Meola`s 100th Appearance for US

The U.S. friendly match against Jamaica on Tuesday was Tony Meola`s 100th international appearance as the U.S team`s goalkeeper. Meola didn`t play for the U.S since 2002, but coach Bruce Arena wanted to give Meola an opportunity to show his skills, before naming his World Cup roster. He becomes the first U.S. keeper and only the ninth American, to achieve the milestone.

A veteran of three World Cup finals squads, Meola, 37, made his international debut in 1988 in a 1-0 friendly loss to Ecuador. A year later, he was his country`s first choice in the position and would remain there for the 1990 and 1994 World Cups.

Currently a member of the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer, Meola has played more World Cup finals games (7) than any other U.S. goalkeeper and ranks second behind Keller for victories (37) and clean sheets (32). An 11-year veteran of MLS, Meola is a five-time league all-star and backboned the Kansas City Wizards to the 2000 league championship.
