Andre Barrett Will Play for the Raptors

Point guard Andre Barrett was signed on Tuesday by the Toronto Raptors as announced by the team. Barrett contract is for the rest of this season including the 2006-07 season to come. The financial details of the contract were not published, according to the team`s policy. Barrett has appeared in nine games for Toronto, averaging 4.8 points and 2.9 assists in 15.9 minutes. He had a career-high 15 points March 31 versus Phoenix and a season-best seven assists April 2 versus New Orleans/Oklahoma City.

Barrett, 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, is in his second NBA season. He was signed to consecutive 10-day contracts by Phoenix before being released March 14. He appeared in two games with the Suns, totaling nine points and two assists. He split the 2004-05 season between Houston and Orlando where he posted averages of 3.1 points and 1.4 assists in 36 games.

Prior to signing with Phoenix, Barrett was with the Florida Flame of the NBA Development League. In 33 games with the Flame, he averaged 17.0 points (11th in the league) and 6.6 assists (third overall in the D-League). He was named first-team All-NBA Development League. Barrett was the top overall pick in the 2005 NBA D-League Draft after not being selected by an NBA team. He averaged 15.3 points and 5.4 assists in four seasons at Seton Hall.
