Manning and Giants Pull a 180
For those of you who followed the Giants closely, the team we saw on Sunday night doesn?t resemble the one from last season at all. For stretches, the Giants offense looked like the Colts. For an offense that used to rely on running the ball just a year ago, they seemed more comfortable throwing it.
The Giants passed the ball every chance they got during Sunday?s loss to San Diego. A lot of it had to do with the fact that the Chargers completely shout down New York?s running game, forcing them to throw the ball. Another explanation is that Tom Coughlin?s offense now has a big and athletic wide receiver in Plaxico Burress that can make big plays.
Even though they eventually lost to San Diego, I couldn?t help but be impressed with the poise and pocket presence that young Ely Manning showed all thought the game. New York converted on numerous 3rd downs, which was one of their Achilles` heels last season.
