Sura?s Injury Leaves Rockets Scrambling at the Point

The Huston Rockets have announced that starting point guard Bobby Sura will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. It is still unclear how long Sura will be out. Sura?s injury has left the Rockers with a hole at the point guard position, one that they?ll have to fill quickly.

In terms of the free agent market, it?s slim picking. The Rockets won?t be able to find anyone better than the guys they already have on their roster. They could go for Utah?s Keith McLeod, but the Jazz are likely to mach any offer. The good news for the Huston is that Jeff Van Gundy?s offense doesn?t really require a true point guard. The Rockets are jam-packed with guards that can stretch the offense and give Yao Ming the freedom to work on the post.

The rockets got Derek Anderson this off-season, who can play some point. Mike James who was acquired mid-way through last season can also fill in at the point. Let?s not forget about David Wesley who spent most of his career playing the point.
