Spurs Not Done Tinkering With Roster
The Spurs have been looking to trade Rasho Nesterovic for more than a year now. So far, there have been no takers for the center who signed with San Antonio as a free agent two seasons ago. Nesterovic was pegged as David Robinson?s replacement who will allow Tim Duncan to continue playing at the power forward position. However, Nesterovic became expendable last season after the Spurs traded for Nazzi Mohamad.
Moving Nesterovic will be a tough task, even tougher than trading Malik Rose. Nesterovic has 4 more years left on his contract and roughly $39 remaining. Apperantly, R.C. Buford still believes that Nesterovic has a market, otherewise he would have cut him during off season as part of the ?Alan Huston? rule (sorry Allan). The Spurs are set at every position, so the only sense in trading Nesterovic would be to get some cap relief.
Who are the potential trading partners for the Spurs? Where there is a bad contract contract for the taking, ther Knicks are the first that come to mind. However, New York is set at the center position so that rules them out. Memphis is in the market for a serviceable center, but they would insist that the Spurs will take one of their bad contracts in exchange. If R.C. Buford manages to move Nesterovic without taking too many bad contracts in return, he would be the obvious choice for GM of the year after convincing Van-Excel and Finely to sign with the team over the summer.
