Logo Messes Up Memphis

After his first couple of season as the Grizzlies general manager everyone was willing to give Gerry West the benefit of the doubt, after all he is the logo. The years went by, and West still hasn?t built anything in Memphis that would resemble the marvelous job he did assembling the Lakers.

Some of it is his fault and some not. It?s much easier to get free agent to com to LA than to Memphis. West also inherited a team with bad contracts he could trade away like the one of Lorenzen Wright. Realizing that it would take year before the Grizzlies would get a substantial cap relief that will allow them to sign a top-tier free agent, West overpaid to get B-list talent like Brian Cardinal and James Posey.

During this off-season, West traded Jason Williams and Posey in a deal that landed him Eddy Jones, who is way past his prime. This trade was mainly done for cap purposes, since Jones will be off the books sooner that Williams and Posey would have.

To cap off a fruitless summer, West also traded for Bobby Jackson and signed free agent Damon Stoudamire to man the point guard position. None of these players represents any kind of a long tearm solution for the team, which begs the question does Jerry West really have a plan?
