More Could Mean Less in Miami
Last week, the Miami Heat signed veteran point guard Garry Payton to a one year contract. The heat management insists that Payton will serve as Jason Williams? backup. Even through Payton has definitely got some juice left in him, I?m not sure that Miami made the right choice by adding him.
Payton hasn?t played second fiddle in quite some time now. One of the reasons he struggled so badly with the Lakers was his inability to adjust to playing a secondary role, and not having the offense flowing through him.
It?s also unclear how Payton will get along with Williams given the fact that both can be strong-headed at times. Chemistry wise, I think that the Heat would have been much better off signing someone like Steve Blake.
Sometimes more means less, including in basketball. The Heat have already made drastic changes over the summer. I think this one will end up hurting them in them in the long run.
