East versus West

When Shaq moved from Los Angels to Miami it marked the shifting of powers from the western conference to the eastern conference. As it stands now, San Antonio is the only serious contender in the west, while the East features three of them including Indiana, Detroit and Miami. Nonetheless, the Western conference is regarded as the tougher conference.

Even though the east features more title contenders, the west has more balance.
Five Eastern Teams have winning records versus the West, which are the Pistons, Heat, Nets, Sixers, and Cavaliers. Yet the West has seven teams with winning records versus the East - Mavericks, Nuggetts, Warriors, Clippers, Lakers, Timberwolves, Trailblazers, and the Spurs.

So far this season, eastern teams have gone a paltry 26-37 against the West.
Realistically, both Conferences have a lot of stars and a lot of good to great teams, but don?t forget that the West still has the championship Spurs who appear deeper than ever as they go for a repeat and of course are centered by Tim Duncan.
