Arenas Wins Player of the Week Honors
Washington Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas was named Player of the week for November 7th - November 13th. Arenas is one of the main reasons why the Wizards are of to a 5-1 start, their best in years. During the starch of games that took place over the course of the week in question, Arenas averaged 31.0 points shooting over 54% from the field while handing out 7.7 assists per game.
Arenas was originally drafted by the Golden State Warriors in the second round. After having a breakout season in second year with the Warriors, Arenas became a free agent and signed a $60 million contract with the Washington Wizards. Commenting on winning the award Arenas said, ?It is a great honor to be recognized for this award. We had two great wins against Seattle and San Antonio last week. Individual honors come with team success, and the most important thing is that we are really coming together and playing well?.
Wizards Head Coach Eddie Jordan said, "He makes everyone around him play harder and better. Gilbert is not only scoring, but his overall play on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball has been instrumental for us". Ironically, coming into the 6-3 Arenas had to learn how to play the point guard position, since he was too short to play shooting guard. Today, he is one of the best in the entire league.
