Starbury on the Move
New York is ready to move Stephan Marbury. This doesn?t come as much of a surprise to anyone that has followed the Knicks over the past 2 seasons. The question becomes who is willing to take him? Marbury is guaranteed more than $50 million over the course of the next couple of season, which makes him virtually untradeble. So far, head coach Larry Brown has enjoyed a grace period in New York. There are only two active head coaches who can get the benefit of the doubt after 0-5 start (the other one is coaching in LA).
When you have a $112 million payroll and nothing to show for it, someone must carry the blame. Stephon Marbury ? rumors began to circulate this week suggesting that Larry Brown and Isiah Thomas had made it known the club would entertain offers on Steph. Stephon says he spoke with Larry Brown, who told him not to worry about the rumors, it came with losing. Both Larry Brown and Isiah Thomas have continued to profess his love for Stephon, which is usually a pretty good indication that they are actively seeking a trade.
So far, a few teams have been mentioned in the press as potential trade partners, with Atlanta and Toronto being in the mix. The Hawks have no interest in Steph, keep in mind Larry Brown is not getting what he needs out of Steph in New York ? its highly unlikely Mike Woodson, LB?s former lead assistant, and Herb Brown, LB?s brother take on cast off parts from Larry Brown. The Raptors are cool to the idea of trading for Stephon, despite needing something to jump start the rebuilding ? its believed Jalen Rose could be had for Stephon, but there is real concern that Steph would deny to report in Toronto if he gets traded.
