Seahawks Live Up to Their End

Ken Hamlin?s contract for the 2005 season will be paid in full by the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks were not obligated to live up to their end, since Hamlin?s season was cut short by a non-football related injury. The Seahawks agreed to pay the remaining $245,882 on Hamlin?s $380,000 base pay. On Oct. 17, Hamlin was assaulted by two individuals (who have yet to be caught by the police) outside a downtown Seattle nightclub. This incident took place just hours after his team beat Houston at nearby Qwest Field Stadium. Hamlin spent three days in intensive care, and six days in all, at Harborview Medical Center with a fractured skull, blood clot near the brain and bruised brain tissue. Lawrence Temple, the agent of Hamlin said, ?Obviously, we appreciate it very much. The Seahawks are doing the right thing by standing by their player, who was the victim of an assault?. Coach Mike Holmgren explains the Seahawks decisions saying, ?There have been instances where guys go on the non-football injury list and are not paid. ?He was very much a victim in this case. He didn?t decide to go skydiving without a parachute. We decided he deserved us to pay him.
