Braves beat Diamondbacks 3-2 in Phoenix
In the top of the ninth inning on Sunday, the Atlanta Braves` Andruw Jones missed the first fastball he saw, then fouled off the second. The third one, though, he crushed. Jones`s 30th home run gave Atlanta the victory in Phoenix and kept the Braves tied with the Washington Nationals atop the MLBs National League East. The Braves walked nine batters, "but we wiggled out of it, and that`s the important thing," said Altanta`s manager, Bobby Cox.
"I had three of them to hit," Jones said, "and I finally hit one of them."
Jones came up after Arizona had rallied to tie the game at 2-2 in the eighth. The Diamondbacks` manager, Bob Melvin, said sometimes that the credit simply goes to the opponent.
"He hits a chin-high fastball" about 94 miles per hour out of the ballpark, Melvin said.
