Angels in the batters box

Vladimir Guerrero`s three-run home run led the Angels to an 8-6 victory on Saturday, their third consecutive come-from-behind victory against the Yankees. Guerrero`s grand slam on Thursday in the seventh inning brought Los Angeles from behind in a 6-5 victory.

Said teammate Darin Erstad, who had three hits Saturday, "Even when he`s struggling, he`s not slumping. He has that ability to get it done."

After Guerrero drove Kevin Brown`s pitch over the center-field wall to give LA a 4-3 lead in the third inning, they added four runs to chase Brown in the fourth. Jason Giambi hit a two-run home run - his 16th of the season and 11th in 16 games - off Esteban Yan in the seventh inning to bring New York within 8-6. But Scot Shields pitched a scoreless eighth, and Francisco Rodriguez set the Yankees down in order in the ninth for his 24th save in 26 chances and third in three nights.

The Angels, leading the American League West, won for the fifth time in six games this season against the Yankees, who have fallen two and a half games behind Boston in the American League East in a situation reminiscent of earlier of the season.
