British hockey news stirs on Giants announcement

Ed Courtenay has been named as the new coach of the Belfast Giants for the forthcoming season. Courtenay succeeds Tony Hand who stepped down due to family commitments.

The Canadian played for San Jose Sharks in the 1990s and most recently was a player and assistant coach with the South Carolina Stingrays. Courtenay, who also turned out for Sheffield and Ayr Scottish Eagles, will arrive in Belfast next month, ahead of the start of pre-season training.

Belfast Giants General Manager John Elliott said: "I am delighted that Ed Courtenay has agreed to coach the Belfast Giants next season.

"He brings a combination of very high calibre playing qualities, an excellent coaching reputation and extensive contacts throughout Europe and North America."
