Maccabi TA signs Jerusalem and NBA point guard
Maccabi Tel Aviv has signed former Hapoel Jerusalem point guard Will Solomon on a two-year contract, the club announced Friday. Solomon played for Efes Pilsen of Turkey last season, averaging 14.4 points and 2.6 assists in 23 Euroleague games and helping the club win the Turkish League title and reach the Euroleague quarterfinals.
The 26-year-old, who played in the NBA for the Memphis Grizzlies, had been touted recently for a return to Hapoel Jerusalem, which he led to the ULEB Cup title in the 2003/4 season, but Maccabi general manager Moni Fanan said yesterday the move had been in the pipeline for the past three months.
Sources at Maccabi added that when Hapoel chairman Danny Klein said last week that if Solomon didn`t return to the NBA, he would play in Jerusalem, he had in fact already agreed terms with Tel Aviv. Solomon, who was signed as a replacement for Sarunas Jasikevicius, with the Lithuanian almost certain to move to the NBA, has proved himself as an accomplished scorer on the European scene.
