American League wins All-Star Game Again
The Major League Baseball All-Star game often provides surreal moments, with players from rival MLB teams playing alongside each other and working together to beat players from a team they may once have played on before, but few such MLB moments can match up to a situation like a Red Sox manager calling up a New York Yankees pitcher to get the save, as happened in the ninth inning when Terry Francona called up the Yanks? Mariano Rivera to the pitcher?s mound.
The American League on Tuesday night won the 2005 Major League Baseball All-Star game, scoring seven runs to the National League?s five with pitcher Mark Buehrle getting the victory for the AL in Detroit. The All-Star Game MVP was Baltimore Orioles star Miguel Tejada, and there were four players from the current MLB World Champion Boston Red Sox on the AL team along with their manager Terry Francona.
Current standings have the Boston Red Sox at the top of the AL East, two games ahead of the Baltimore Orioles. The Chicago White Sox still hold the top of the AL Central Division, and the Angels are determined to maintain their place at the top of the AL West. The National League West has the San Diego Padres five games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the St. Louis Cardinals at the top of the NL Central and the Washington Nationals leading the NL East.
