Sean O`Hair takes the Deere Classic
Sitting behind a trophy, his wife and in-laws in front of him, Sean O`Hair is feeling pretty good about himself and his life at the moment.
He`s having the success he was urged and pressured constantly by his father to pursue, winning the "John Deere Classic" this last Sunday a first victory in what was his 18th career start, and to make it that much more special it came just a day before his 23rd birthday.
Starting the day five strokes back, O`Hair climbed into contention quickly with three birdies on his first nine. He got to the top of the leaderboard with a 14-foot putt on No. 14, though, and his victory looked secure when he blasted out to within 2 feet for another birdie on 17. The 18th hole was a bit of a nail-biter, but in the end he was able to hug his wife and celebrate his first victory.
O`Hair earned $720,000 in the game and had a 16-under 268 total at Deere Run.
"I had a tough situation when I was a kid. That`s the easiest way to put it," he added. "It just was not a happy situation, and there was a lot of pressure there. I just think now it`s the exact opposite. How can you not succeed?"
The victory has earned him a spot to compete in the prestigious British Open.
