Christmas Report Cards

The holidays is a time to rejoice and reflecting. Now that we have hit the Christmas break, it seems like a good time to evaluate some of the most notable teams in the past couple of months. Let?s start at the top with the Detroit Pistons, probably the best team in basketball right now, although the Spurs will get a chance to make their case when the two teams face off later today.

On the subject of the Spurs, they simply have not been as impressive as expected. Seem to play down to the competition too often and not putting out consistent championship effort each night. Yet on some nights they look unbeatable. Still -this is a team that has historically started slow and I expect them to surge soon and I would not be surprised to see them really make a statement on Christmas Day (if Ginobili plays).

Another team that has been turning heads is the Dallas Mavericks who still don?t get the respect they should. Dirk Nowitzki is playing as well as anyone in the league this year. Moreover, this team has more depth than many realize and versatility, and has achieved a very strong record despite injuries. Might well win a championship in this decade.
