Grizzlies Looking More like Pistons with Each Passing Day
Even though they lost to the Pistons last week, the Grizzlies proved that they could stand toe-to-toe with one of the elite teams in the league. Case in point, it took Detroit no less than two overtimes to finally put them away. Their bench is nothing to write home about, they have an aging backcourt that is past its prime, no center at all, and yet they still manage to win. Looking at their roster, one cannot help but wonder how the hell are they doing it?
You know, Mike Fratello has a talent for picking fights with players, Damon Stoudamire might create trouble, Bobby Jackson will probably get injured way too many times, Eddie Jones is getting old, Gasol is soft? All that BS that people love to say. The Grizzlies are actually playing a brand of basketball that?s very similar to Detroit?s, focusing on strong defense and swarming opponents, while also distributing the ball well thru the offense, with inside and outside possibilities.
Lorenzen Wright plays Ben?s defensive-minded center role, Shane Battier is almost like a twin of Tayshaun Prince ? well, a much stronger twin ? and Gasol is looking even more talented than Sheed, but still learning his ways. He?s not as nasty as Wallace, as smart, but he?s getting there. And he?s losing the softness.
