Webber Shows Signs of Life
Have the 76ers finally started to turn things around? The Sixers won a big game against the Minnesota Timber Wolves earlier this week. So they won a game, what?s the big deal? Before losing to the Sixers the Wolves had won five in a row and seven of eight. Moreover, despite the relatively low score it was an epic battle where three NBA superstars went at all night long. The Sixers gave up a 12-0 run to put the game into over-time and survived a Garnett miss on tough team defense to go on to win it in over-time as both teams played very strong defense on multiple possessions.
This game was initially billed as the battle of superstars Kevin Garnett and scoring leader Allen Iverson, while overlooking Chris Webber. Will he ever be able to get back to superstar level? The answer on this Monday was a resounding yes as Chris Webber simply ?brought it all night long", and showed multiple flashes of why at one time in the not so distant past - Webber`s supporters could make a pretty solid case that he was every bit as good of a forward as either Tim Duncan or Kevin Garnett (at least offensively).
Webber was simply amazing with his energy and all around game, and finished with 27 points, 21 (yes Twenty One) rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 well timed blocks including one on Garnett in the over-time. Webber also was the top scorer for the Sixers, and it was the first time this year, that Allen Iverson did not lead the Sixers in scoring. Iverson was impressive anyway, settling for "only" 19 points on a cold shooting night but made 10 timely assists.
