Fortson Gets Ejected Once Again
The fans in Seattle were hoping to build on last year?s success, so you can imagine their disappointment from the way the Sonics opened the season. The only drastic change this team has experienced was the changing in coaches. Nate McMillan accepted Portland?s generous offer, which led the Sonics to promote Bob Weiss to over the head coaching job. Roster wise the sonics have exactly the same people they had last year with the exception of Jerome James and Antonio Daniels. Judging by the both of them are playing this season with their new teams, the Sonics made the right decision to let them go.
This weekend the Sonics climbed back to .500 after defeating the Utah Jazz 106-90. Danny Fortson?s getting himself ejected seems like an on going ritual. He has acquired a reputation for himself much like the one Rashid Wallace had before joining the Pistons. Fortson was ejected for attempting to go after one of the officials before leaving the court early in the fourth quarter. Coach Bob Weiss and assistant Jack Sikma ran onto the court to help corral Fortson and kept an ugly moment from getting any worse. Seattle was already up 20 points and on its way to improving to 8-8 and didn"t need Fortson"s outburst to overshadow its fifth win in six games.
Once Fortson figured out he"d been tossed after being called for elbowing Jarron Collins, he ripped his jersey out and stormed toward official Mike Callahan, who had walked to the other end of the court. Allen grabbed him, and Weiss and Sikma ran off the bench to help keep the 260-pound Fortson from getting in any more trouble.
