Throwback Grizzlies Turning Heads
So far this season we have witnessed a number of surprises, but none bigger than the Memphis Grizzlies. Memphis is now ranked forth in the western conference sporting a record of 13-5. What makes the Grizzlies any bigger surprise than the Clippers or the Warriors? For starters, they don?t have the talent level to justify their standings. The Grizzlies have gone throw a major overhaul in the summer, losing Stromile Swift to free agency and trading Jason Williams and James Posey to Miami.
The Grizzlies don?t have one all-star player on their roster. Pau Gasol is a nice player but he is not a franchise player. So how have the Memphis been doing it? The Grizzlies are riding a six-game winning streak in which they are showing the kind of chemistry that certainly was not expected of a team that lost so many key pieces from last season. More than anything, the Grizzlies are playing defense better than anyone in the league currently allowing teams to score less than 85 points per game.
The Grizzlies exude a work ethic combined with good coaching and team chemistry, which are some of the main ingredients needed in building a championship caliber team. That is not meant to imply that the Grizzlies are on their way to winning the NBA title. This team has some hurdles to overcome, namely winning the franchise?s first playoff game. By all indications, this current team is more than capable of doing just that, but based on the very modest attention this team is getting, you wouldn?t even think this team has won a single game.
