Rangers hope to end slump
Rookie pitcher Chris Young has become a much-needed streak buster for the slumping Texas Rangers. Young, who got the only victory on Texas", just-completed 13-game road trip, limited Seattle to one run over five innings in a 6-4 victory Tuesday night that started the Rangers 10-game homestand. Young won his third straight decision over four starts.
The Rangers had lost four straight games since Young`s eight scoreless innings last Wednesday against Cleveland snapped the Rangers` season-worst eight-game losing streak. Ichiro Suzuki homered on the second pitch of the game, but that was the only run allowed by Young (11-7). The right-hander gave up three more hits and struck out six.
The Mariners (53-71) are 18 games below .500, matching a season worst. They have lost 13 of 21. Suzuki was thrown out trying to steal second after his fifth-inning walk. He finished 2-for-4, his 327th career multihit game, 47th this season. Rangers cleanup hitter Hank Blalock is 6-for-45 (.133) over the past 11 games with no extra-base hits or RBIs.
