Little League Softball Series Update
The best Redmond Little League could have done was break even in the Junior Softball World Series. But that suited the team just fine. With its record now at 2-3 following a 14-4 loss in six innings to Asia-Pacific on Friday at Everest Park, Redmond played its final game of the Series on Saturday.
The pairings for the championship game were set following the conclusion of a semifinal game between the South and East teams. The teams were tied 0-0 in the 11th inning Friday night when the game was suspended because of darkness. The record and scoring differential -- opponents have outscored Redmond, 59-22 -- might suggest a disappointing performance for the local team during the World Series. The Asia-Pacific team, based in the Philippines, got off to a quick start by scoring six runs in the second inning and another in the third to build a 7-0 lead.
Redmond managed just a single off Asia-Pacific starter Julie Marie Muyco before she departed after working four innings. Asia-Pacific added another run in the fifth inning to take an 8-0 advantage before a pair of singles by Candy Button and Alexa Whelchel helped Redmond score three of its four sixth-inning runs to cut the deficit to 8-4. Asia-Pacific added six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before the 10-run rule ended the game with two outs.
