NBA star outshines NFL golfers
The Seattle SuperSonics` $80 million man was in a league of his own Monday at Snoqualmie Ridge golf course. By the 18th hole, Ray Allen -- an NBA superstar playing among NFL legends -- had his traveling quintet in awe.
But it was only appropriate that Allen, who signed a five-year $80 million contract with the Sonics last month, became the main attraction among his five-man group down the stretch. After all, he carried the Sonics to a surprising first-place finished in the Northwest Division and averaged 26 points a game in the playoffs last season.
"It was really neat to meet him," former Seahawks receiver and NFL Hall of Famer Steve Largent said. "He`s a real great guy."
Allen was a late entry to the Rumble at the Ridge, a prelude to this week`s Champions Tour event at Snoqualmie. A total of 34 former NFL stars -- including past Seahawks quarterback Dave Krieg and defensive end Jacob Green -- led 34 groups around the TPC course. Largent, who lives in Washington D.C., was thought to be the lone celebrity attraction in the group until Allen was ask to join last week. Donning a University of Connecticut cap -- and a golf bag outfitted with UConn paraphernalia -- Allen carved the course with line-drive tee shots.
