Houston Comets to play at Seattle Storm
Seattle is 14-12, third in the Western Conference, 5 games behind first-place Sacramento and half a game behind Houston. The Comets are 15-12, second in the West, 5 games behind Sacramento. The Comets lead, 13-6. The Storm lead at Seattle, 5-4. This year`s four-game series is 1-1, with each having won at home. The Storm came from 14 down at halftime for a 79-69 victory on May 27. The Comets evened the score at Houston, 71-67, on June 28.
The Storm concluded an 0-2 road trip on Saturday, losing at New York, 79-67. Seattle trailed by 19 during the second half, then cut it to five late in the game, but got no closer. Lauren Jackson led Seattle with 14 points and nine rebounds. The Storm played without starting guard Betty Lennox, who returned to Seattle to have her injured wrist examined. ... In their worst offensive game of the season, the Comets lost at Sacramento on Sunday, 55-45 -- their second-lowest point total in franchise history (they had 38 at Phoenix on Aug. 14, 2001). Houston`s 16-point first half tied its team record for lowest-scoring half.
Storm rumblings -- Lennox`s status is still day-to-day. Rookie Tanisha Wright took her place in the starting lineup last Saturday at New York. The Storm thought they were done with Dawn Staley after hanging on to beat Charlotte on July 29 in the Key, 79-68. Staley had 10 points and five assists that night. But now, they",ll see her two more times -- both this week -- following her trade to Houston last Monday.
