Instead of steroids, Raffy, how about some truth?

So who can we believe in baseball anymore? Does anybody out there really think Rafael Palmeiro is merely a victim of circumstance? Does anyone think now that Jose Canseco was making everything up when he said he supplied and injected steroids into Palmeiro a decade earlier?

Are we really to believe the same guy just accidentally became the first big-name player to fail a steroid test and be suspended under Major League Baseball`s stricter drug policy? Say it ain`t so, Raffy. Wag your finger at the cameras and proclaim your innocence, as you did when sitting in front of Congress less than five months ago while vowing, "I have never taken steroids. Period."

Apparently the period should have been a question mark. Because on Monday, Palmeiro was back in front of a microphone, this time on a conference call following his suspension for steroid use, amending his statement.

"I have never intentionally used steroids. Never, ever. Period," Palmeiro said.
